Title: Premature Birth: A Global Perspective through Four Unique Lenses

Date: Sunday, 17th November 2024

Time: 12:00-13:00 GMT

This one-hour event is designed to provide a holistic view of neonatal care by sharing experiences from four speakers who work closely with premature infants and their families, either as caregivers, educators, or researchers. With an emphasis on both the challenges and achievements in neonatal nursing worldwide, this webinar promises to be both insightful and inspiring.

Why Attend?

Premature birth presents significant medical, emotional, and logistical challenges, not only for the infants but also for their families and the healthcare professionals who support them. The experience varies widely across countries and cultures, making it crucial to understand these diverse perspectives. This COINN webinar will explore these issues through four distinctive viewpoints:

1. The Parent’s Experience

Livia Nagy Bonnard from Budapest, Hungary, will share her experience of becoming a “preterm family.” As a parent of a premature infant, Livia’s insights will resonate deeply with families who have shared a similar journey and highlight the emotional and practical adjustments parents face after premature birth.

2. Neonatal Nurse Mentorship

Mr. Mustapha Mahama, a Neonatal Nurse Specialist and Nurse Educator from Ghana, will discuss the impact of bedside mentorship on outcomes for premature births. With a focus on training and mentorship, Mr. Mahama will shed light on how knowledgeable and compassionate care can improve outcomes for preterm infants, even in resource-constrained settings.

3. Global Neonatal Outreach

Anne Moylan, a Neonatal Lecturer from Edinburgh, Scotland, will speak about the significance of neonatal nursing outreach, particularly her work in Vietnam. Anne’s international experience illustrates the importance of sharing knowledge and resources to elevate neonatal care across borders.

4. The Tri-Partite Perspective

Mrs. Victoria Craig from Belfast, Northern Ireland, wears many hats: she is a parent, a neonatal nurse, and a researcher. Her unique perspective will offer insights into balancing these roles and the impact of combining lived experience with professional expertise in neonatal care.
