United Nations Secretary General will convene a meeting in New York to call on donor
On September 22, 2010 the United Nations Secretary General will convene a meeting in New York to call on donor and developing country governments across the world to: show leadership by undertaking the bold commitments and new approaches needed to accelerate progress on maternal and child health. Each year, millions of women and children continue to die from preventable causes. It is up to donor and developing country governments alike to support the necessary interventions to make global promises a reality in a mutually accountable and transparent fashion.

Northeastern University Nursing Dean receives the 2010 Stan and Mavis Graven Award for Leadership
February 24, 2010 – Carole Ann Kenner, Dean of Northeastern University’s School of Nursing, is the recipient of the 2010 Stan and Mavis Graven Award for Leadership in Enhancing the Physical and Developmental Environment for High Risk Infants.
The Stan and Mavis Graven Award for Leadership is given annually to a professional who has made significant contributions to environmental and/or developmental care for high-risk infants and their families. Kenner, who received the award during the 23rd Annual Gravens Conference in Florida earlier this month, was nominated for the award by her colleagues for her dedication to neonatal nursing.
“Carole has dedicated more than 30 years to providing an evidence-based standard of education to neonatal nurses both nationally and internationally,” said Carol Jaeger, vice president of Nationwide Children’s Hospital, who presented Kenner with the award. “She has provided leadership not only in practice, but education, research and publication. Her work has served as a guide to both nurses and interdisciplinary health professionals.”
Kenner joined the Northeastern’s faculty in January 2010 and is also Associate Dean of the Bouvé College of Health Sciences. She received her BSN from the University of Cincinnati and her MSN and DNS from Indiana University at Indianapolis. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, one of the highest honors in nursing, and is serving as the President of the Council of International Neonatal Nurses, an organization she founded which represents 50 countries. Her outstanding achievements in the field of neonatal intensive care nursing have resulted in her being named the “mother” of neonatal nursing by colleagues and healthcare professionals.
Her primary research interests are in the area of transition from hospital to home for mothers and babies, perinatal substance abuse, the family context of clinical genetics, and the family context of parents of children newly diagnosed with cancer. The recurring theme of all her research is the family context and life transitions.

Research Collaborators Wanted
We are interested in collaborating with researchers interested in collecting and analyzing data related to the push-pull factors associated with immigration and transnational migration of health care workers.
This comparative project is designed to explore, evaluate, and contrast the economic, social, political, and professional factors associated with the immigration of health care workers from developing countries to the US, Europe, and Canada. This project is in the development stage and has some seed research support to jump-start it.
Anyone interested in collaborating on this project should send their contact information to: Janice Zasada, Office Manager at: J.Zasada@coinnurses.org or via fax to: 815-344-6238. |
